Pay Attention

Attention might be the most misunderstood and underrated of all tools of success, I don't know whether to attribute it to the fact that no where in history have humans had so much information at their disposal, it's abundance of which has led to a not so surprising decline in Attention

When last was it that you dropped your phone and didn't consume any information in media, movies, blogs, podcasts or books but paused to reflect and to bring yourself to pay attention to what's in front of you?

When last was it that you didn't react to the sound of a notification even when in the middle of a face to face conversation?

How long is your attention span and would you have opened this post of you saw "7 minute read" at the bottom?

Would you read this if there weren't gaps in between that refreshed your slight stimulation by the sort of questions you saw?

I too would probably answer these questions the same way you would and the biggest problem is the illusion of control, the deceitful nature of habits that make you feel as though you were consciously aware of the choices that led to this attention scarcity

Here are some of the effects of attention:

Remember that assignment deadline you had to meet and thought it would be impossible to finish?

Or that exam you hadn't prepared for and stayed up the whole night to read without touching your phone even once for fear of failure?

That state of mind is called Flow

For those who watch anime, particularly sport anime like Kuroko no basket, it was referred to as Zone.

It's the point where your attention/distraction ratio is above 100: 0

And it's a replicable effect.

But the process is something I'll dive into when I have a full understanding of it

The point is success or attaining balance without a solid ability to pay attention is a lot more difficult than it is to be distracted in this age of information

what point is there in talking about a person that evolves everyday?
